Rachel's Rememberings

Do you know the saying, "Kids say the darnest things"? Well, I'm here to tell you that it's true. Rachel does some of the funniest things.
Last night while I was feeding Rebekah on one couch, Jeff was reading/playing with Rachel while watching the football game. In the past, Rachel has found holes in the bottom of Jeff's socks and said they were dirty and proceeded to take the socks off his feet. Well last night she looked at his socks and said dirty and tried to take his socks off. Jeff insisted his socks were fine and that she shouldn't remove his socks. When Jeff realized that Rachel thought she saw holes in his socks he tried to tell her they were fine, but on careful inspection of his socks, there was a small hole in the sock. It may not be funny to you, but it had me laughing for a while, and it even gave me a good laugh after I'd gone to bed.

Even if I'm not the greatest housekeeper, it's good to know that my daughter can take care of it when I don't want to or feel like it.

When we got home from church today and were eating lunch, Rachel looks in the backyard and says, "Where'd the ball go?" The neighbor behind us moved out and we don't keep balls in the backyard, so we were stumped as to what she was referring. After a minute, I finally figured out that she probably was referring to an instance where the kids who used to live behind us were playing with one of those balloons that you tie a string to and hit it with your hand. Every once in a while you could see the ball go higher than the fence. It's so weird to have her remember things from a while back.

Right now her favorite things to talk about are race cars. She talks about wanting to drive a race car, and asked if daddy drives a race car. I'm not really sure where that came from but still interesting.

On our way home from having lunch with a friend we were going through construction where they are building a new road near our house. She asked what they were doing so I told her they were building a new road. She didn't like this, so she said , "My road". I said, no the people and machines would squish you. Then she said, "I want to help." Not real sure of what she said, so I repeated, "Did you say you want to help build the road?" and she straight-faced said, "Yes."

She's such a big helper and wants to help with anything and everything. One of these days she's going to ask to help with something so big that it's above her comprehension and out of a desire to encourage her helpfulness I'll do my best to make it happen. I don't even know if she'll understand the magnitude of her servanthood or even remember it happening, but she'll continue to amaze me.
